The Auckland city centre has a vibrant new landmark at the base of the Sky Tower, designed to celebrate Auckland’s unique icons and heritage.

The installation will remain on display for three weeks, until Friday 8 June, when the letters return to their classic gold - ready for the next installation or special occasion.

Standing over 10 metres wide and two metres high, the fully welded aluminium installation is an eye-catching addition to the city, with each of the eight letters weighing approximately 600 kilograms. These designs were created by local competition winners, the Auckland Blues, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, and Auckland Pride.

Each letter of the A-U-C-K-L-A-N-D installation was designed by a mix of local artists, community partners, and competition winners:

  • – Franco Saez: Public Competition Winner
  • – Soo Park: Public Competition Winner
  • – Auckland Pride
  • – Kōwhai Intermediate Students: Representing Variety - The Children's Charity
  • – Logan Daly: Public Competition Winner
  • – Auckland Blues
  • – Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei
  • D – Richard Ruang: Public Competition Winner

The installation is expected to become a central landmark for international visitors attending the New Zealand International Convention Centre and those exploring the SkyCity precinct, providing a permanent point of connection in the heart of the city.
